Along with the black rhino other commonly spotted animals include zebra, wildebeest, Thomson' s gazelle, eland and Masai giraffe. This is also the only place in Kenya where topi is common. One of the best places to look for game is in the Mara Triangle in the western part of the Masai Mara. Lions are found throughout the park. Cheetah is most often found in the short grass plains while the black rhino are highly concentrated in the Olmisigiyoi region of the centre of the reserve. The southern end of the Masai Mara National Reserve is the ideal area to witness the annual Migration of wildebeest and zebra. There have been over 420 species of bird recorded in the park. Flamingo, pelican and Egyptian geese flock to Amboseli during the green season when the plains turn emerald green. Observation Hill in the south of the park offers impressive 360 degree panaromic views over the park and surrounding mountains. To capture the elephants grazing in the swamps in front of Mount Kilimanjaro, you will need to wake early (before 7am). The elephants can be found in the Ol Tukai and Olokenya swamps.
